Following publication of the Advance Party Report, in 1967, Venture Scout Units replaced Rover Crews and Senior Scout sections and in 1976 Venture Scouting was opened up to accept female members.
The age was from 15½ to 20. Following a review in 2003, the Venture Scout section was replaced by the Explorer Scout section and the Scout Network.
There were two awards available to members of the section – the Venture Scout Award, and the Queen's Scout Award. The latter award was the highest award available to the youth sections of Scouting, and continues to be available to the two sections which replaced the Venture Scouts. Venture Scouts wore the same uniform as leaders but could choose from a brown tie or group/unit/district scarf.
The 59th St Augustine's Venture Unit (known as the LIX Venture Unit) was formed in 1980 with three members and Ken Atkin as Leader. It grew in size to mid-teens and (according to the census return, in 1993 had 24 members - which actually made it biggest section in the Group and there was probably a reason for the blip). During his time in the Unit, Chris Bullivant gained the Queen's Scout Award. In 1994, with seven members, it closed - to be replaced by Hunters Bar Explorer Scouts.
