The idea that the 59th should have its own own Headquarters was first mooted in about 1923 when money raising events for it were held.
Over the years, a number of locations were seen as possibilities including one on Broco Bank and another on what is now the site of the
Montessori School on Psalter Lane.
In
1963, the Group successfully negotiated with St Augustine's Church for the use of the site of the tennis courts behind the vicarage for the building of a new Group Headquarters on Botanical Road.
Much fundraising took place and, in 1966, the plans were approved by Sheffield City Council and building work commenced.
In 1971, the Group moved into the new building and in October 1972, it was officially opened by the Rev Canon D H Boyling former Vicar of St Augustine's.
Some, but not all of the major players in the project were A L Sands - Group Chairman, R C Lawrence - Former Scout Leader, S Packard - Group Quartermaster,
K Atkin - Architect and Clerk of Works and E Swithinbank - Group Secretary.
In 1993, the Group purchased the freehold of the site.
